We employ a simple design philosophy. The client presents a situation in need of improvement. We fashion a strategy to address the need.

Every problem is unique in program (what the client wants), context (what raw materials the site and environment offer), and budget (intended resources to spend and time within which to spend it). The magic comes in the inspired calculus of addressing all issues at hand to the client’s satisfaction.

We are not advocates for any particular style nor do we try to design in the manner of someone else. The result is a unique and personalized solution for the client rather than a manifestation of studio ego.

We sincerely strive to understand our client’s desires to aid them in achieving a solution that is truly theirs.

Design
Design, by definition, is a forward looking exercise. It’s the act of conception, of something new and exciting, of making a place that engages on the first visit and builds experience over time. Good design is an act of improvement to site and community. While we consider design to be a serious endeavor it certainly does not want to be stuffy, expected, or fraught with trepidation of making a poor choice. Design, done well, emancipates.

Value
We strongly encourage long project life cycles – that is we recommend elements that last and stand the test of time. We temper that notion with the irrefutable reality that gardens change over time and client’s needs vary. Materials are selected with knowledge rooted in the project intent to yield the maximum value for dollars spent. We also keep in mind that there are many yet to follow that will rely on the same resources we do.

Collaboration
We enjoy true collaborative team design. In addition to the client we work to understand the intent and tasks of colleagues and inform our efforts with the objectives of the team. We firmly believe in the power of a group of highly motivated, creative individuals brought together to seek a unique result.

How Fees Work
Our commodities are ideas and time. Fees are directly proportional to the complexity and amount of time required to complete the task at hand. In order to tailor a design proposal specifically for your project, we like to visit you and your site and discuss your needs. Our proposal clearly identifies the tasks and documents we will provide, the information we need from you and our fees (usually broken down by task). Included will be information on how the agreement is to be executed and terms for payment. Once the agreement is signed by you we will begin working to bring you the result you desire.
